Box Score DeLand, Fla.- Stetson (3-9) sent 12 batters to the plate and exploded for seven runs in the first inning in a 15-6 win over James Madison (7-5) Saturday night in the second game of a doubleheader on Melching Field. The first seven hatters to come to the plate scored.
Seven Hatters contributed two RBI each after the first run came on a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning off the bat of leadoff hitter Casey Frawley (New Haven, Ct.). It was his team-leading third home run of the season.
Nick Rickles (Loxahatchee, Fla.) led the way offensively with a 3-for-5 night. Aaron Crittenden (Fort Myers, Fla.), Frank Florio (Long Valley, NJ), and Alex Hudak (Sorrento, Fla.) each contributed a pair of hits to the cause. With both games of the doubleheader combined, Hudak was an impressive 5-for-9 with four runs scored on the day.
Stetson sent three freshmen to the mound to combine for the win. Ryan Sweat (DeBary, Fla.) started and threw 2 2/3 innings allowing three earned runs and striking out three batters. Lindsay Caughel (Orlando, Fla.) did the bulk of the work throwing 4 1/3 innings of relief allowing just one run and striking out four. He picked up the win to go 1-0 on the season. Jake Boyd (West Palm Beach, Fla.) finished the final two innings allowing four hits and a single run.
The win was a complete team effort. Every player that stepped into the batter's box had at least one hit and eight of the nine had at least one RBI. The only player not to pick up a hit was Jeremy Cruz (Miami, Fla.) and yet he delivered two RBI for the home team.
James Madison defeated Stetson 9-5 in the first game of the doubleheader.
