Tulsa, Okla. - Stetson men's tennis junior Cesare Gallo (Portogruaro, Italy) wrapped up play at the D'Novo Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships on Tuesday, bouncing back from a Monday loss with a 6-2, 6-2 win over nationally 69th-ranked Dan Stahl of Notre Dame in the Consolation Qualifying Draw.
Gallo, the ITA's 108th-ranked singles player in NCAA Division I, was invited to compete in the qualifying draw of one of the nation's largest and most prestigious college tennis tournaments. Oklahoma State's Rifat Biktyakov defeated Gallo 6-4, 6-3 on Monday in the main qualifying draw to push him into the consolation bracket.
Stetson competes at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational in Winter Park, Fla. this Friday-Sunday (Oct. 8-10).
Los Angeles, Calif. - Nationally 56th-ranked doubles pair Carolina de los Santos (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) were defeated 9-7 by N.C. State's Sanaa Bhambri and Sandhya Nagaraj in the first round of the qualifying doubles draw at the Riviera Women's All-American Championships. Their scheduled consolation match against #24 Anamika Bhargava and Marie Zalameda of Pepperdine was cancelled.
The Hatters return to action as a team Oct. 15-17 for the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
