DeLand, Fla. - Senior forward Ashli Jackson (Opelika, Ala.) sank four three-pointers and scored a season-high 20 points Thursday evening against Belmont at the Edmunds Center, but it wasn't enough as the Stetson women's basketball team (5-22, 5-13 Atlantic Sun) fell by a 79-52 score. The Bruins improved to 13-12 overall and 8-9 in the A-Sun. Junior guard Tierra Brown (Orlando, Fla.) hit her season average on the number with 10 points.
Belmont came out hot and stayed that way, shooting out to a 41-20 halftime advantage and then shooting 53.6 percent from the floor (15-28) in the second half to close the Hatters out. Bruins center Haley Nelson tallied 21 points on 10 of 14 shooting to go along with five rebounds and a steal to lead the visitors. Amber Rockwell (17 points) and point guard Shaunda Strayhorn (14 points, seven assists) also did significant damage for Belmont.
Stetson junior center Natasha Graboski (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds while freshman guard Dashauna Truss (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored seven points and handed out a team-leading five assists.
Jackson, Stetson's lone upperclassman in 2009-10, will be honored on Senior Day at 3 p.m. Saturday as the Hatters close out their home schedule against Lipscomb. A Stetson victory would clinch a berth in the General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, to be held March 3-6 in Macon, Ga.
