Dorsey?s Eight Strong Leads Hatters to Win

DeLand, Fla. - Stetson starter Will Dorsey (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) tossed a team season-high of eight innings and Sean Emory (Miami, Fla.) delivered up a pair of RBI to lead Stetson (4-8) to a 3-2 win over James Madison (3-5) Tuesday night on Melching Field. Dorsey struck out seven batters and walked just one en route to his second win of the season against no losses. Emory was 2-for-4 with two key RBI in the first inning.

"If Dorsey can pitch like that and throw his off speed stuff like he did, he can win a lot of games for us", said Stetson head coach Pete Dunn. "It was awfully nice to see."

Stetson came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Spencer Theisen (Longwood, Fla.) led off with a sharp single to left-center, yet was later caught stealing when the Dukes guessed correctly and called a pitch out. Mark Jones (Palm Coast, Fla.) promptly worked a base on balls and Aaron Crittenden (Fort Myers, Fla.) followed with a single up the middle. Catcher Nick Rickles (Loxahatchee, Fla.) was next and he picked up the second walk of the inning to load the bases. Two batters later Emory stepped in and smacked a single through the right side plating Jones and Crittenden.

After JMU scored a single run in the top of the 2nd the Hatters responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo blast over the left field fence by Kurt Schluter (Jupiter, Fla.). It was the first collegiate home run for the freshman and turned out to be the game-winner for Stetson.

As a team the Hatters had 11 hits in the game led by Emory, Crittenden and Jeff Simpson (Valrico, Fla.) with two each. Schluter, Theisen, Jones, Rickles, and Robert Crews (Port Charlotte, Fla.) each had one.

The Dukes added a run in the top of the 5th inning to make the score 3-2, but Dorsey held them scoreless through the end of the 8th. Justin Dechert (Boynton Beach, Fla.) entered in the 9th , struck out one batter, and took home his first save of the season.

Next up for the Hatters is a home game against Central Michigan on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. on Melching Field. Hatters fans can catch the Stetson game on Hatter Vision by going to www.gohatters.com. The voice of Stetson baseball Bill Topping will call the action.
