DeLand, Fla. - After falling behind early a steady comeback fell just short and Stetson (3-7) dropped a 6-5 game to Harvard University (2-0) Saturday night on Melching Field. Freshman Ryan Lashley (Lake Worth, Fla.) picked up three hits for the second consecutive night going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Robert Crews (Port Charlotte, Fla.) also had three hits for the Hatters, while Jeff Simpson (Valrico, Fla.) added a pair.
Stetson's standout of the game was senior left hander David Burns (Seminole, Fla.) who kept Stetson in the game with 5 2/3 innings of middle relief work. He allowed two runs and struck out five batters. Starter Justin Dechert (Boynton Beach, Fla.) gave up four runs in two innings, struck out two and suffered the loss. He fell to 0-3 on the season. Closer Jacob deGrom (DeLeon Springs, Fla.) tossed the final 1 1/3 innings allowing one hit and holding the Crimson scoreless.
Harvard won its second game of the day after defeating Notre Dame 9-6 in the morning game of the Bright House Invitational. Will Keuper (1-0) picked up the win and Jonah Klees was credited with the save.
