Orlando, Fla. - Stetson (19-16) traveled to Orlando Tuesday night for a midweek matchup with UCF (23-12) and fell by a score of 10-6. The Knights have now defeated the Hatters twice in 2010.
Stetson had a solid offensive showing marking the scoreboard with 14 hits, yet were outdone by one by the home team. Defensively Stetson did not commit an error for the 10th time this season and the fourth time in the past five games.
Sean Emory (Miami, Fla.) continued his hot hitting of late with a 3-for-5 night that included a pair of RBI. He is now 26-for-49 (.531) over the past 10 games. Also contributing multiple hits were Mark Jones (Palm Coast, Fla.), Ryan Lashley (Lake Worth, Fla.), Kurt Schluter (Jupiter, Fla.), Robert Crews (Port Charlotte, Fla.) and Spencer Theisen (Longwood, Fla.). Jones, Schluter, and Crews each had a double and Theisen delivered his 3rd home run of the season deep over the right field fence.
Jeff Simpson (Valrico, Fla.) had his 24-game hitting streak come to an end after going 0-for-2 with two walks on the night. It was the 3rd longest hitting streak in Stetson history behind Brian Zenchyk's 28 in 2002 and Brian Bocock's 25 in 2005.
Stetson starter Will Dorsey (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) took the loss and fell to 2-2 on the season after tossing 3.0 innings and allowing nine hits and five runs. Five more Hatter pitchers took the mound with only Ian Thompson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and David Burns (Seminole, Fla.) not surrendering a run. In all between the two teams 13 pitchers saw time in a game that was not as important as the upcoming weekend conference battles for both sides.
Next up for the Hatters is a weekend road trip to Nashville to take on Belmont. Friday they will play a single game at 4:00 p.m. and then a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. Stetson fans can listen to the games on Hatter Vision by going to www.gohatters.com.
