DeLand, Fla. - Stetson (25-24, 12-9 Atlantic Sun) split Saturday's Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader with USC Upstate (16-33, 6-18). The Hatters won the first game 19-7 and then dropped the nightcap 8-7. With the win Upstate took the series two games to one.
Kurt Schluter (Jupiter, Fla.) had four hits in game one including two doubles and his 5th home run of the season. After a pair of hits in the second game he finished the afternoon 6-for-8 with three doubles, a home run and eight RBI.
Stetson's game one starter Lindsey Caughel (Orlando, Fla.) tossed five innings and surrendered just one run on five hits and struck out four batters. He earned the win and raised his record to 5-4 on the season. Will Dorsey (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) took the loss in game two after giving up two runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning of relief. His record is now even at 3-3.
In game one Stetson exploded for 19 runs and equaled a season-high 21 hits. Seven Hatters delivered multiple hits led by Schluter's four. Spencer Theisen (Longwood, Fla.) had three and extended his hitting streak to 17 games. Unfortunately that is where it ended after going 0-for-3 in game two.
The Hatters will return to Melching Field Wednesday night to host #5 Florida State. The game will be televised on Bright House Sports Network beginning at 6:00 p.m.
