Greenville, S.C. - Stetson (1-1-1) closed the 2010 Furman Diadora/SPINX Tournament against the host Paladins (3-1-0) and fell by a score of 2-1 in double overtime.

The Hatters controlled play for the majority of the game ending regulation with a 16-4 advantage in shots. Furman, however, outshot Stetson 4-1 in extra time including the golden goal at 104:27. Furman had four corner kick opportunities to two for Stetson and the fouls were close to even at 12 for the visitors and 10 for the hosts.

Junior forward Niels De Jonck (Antwerp, Belgium) put the Hatters on the board early with a blast from 16 yards out off a centering pass by Jonathan Mendoza (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) in the 16th minute. It was the third goal of the season for De Jonck. Furman hit the equalizer at 36:38 with a header by Talon Stroud following a chip pass by Josh Fusan.

The teams battled to a scoreless second half and first overtime period until Stroud set up Brooks Duff for the final tally from 28 yards out.

Stetson's Fredrik Brustad (Oslo, Norway) and Gonzalo de Mujica (Weston, Fla.) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Stetson will now return home to host the 2010 Stetson Soccer Classic next weekend. On Friday September 17 Jacksonville University will host Florida International at 5:00 p.m. in Jacksonville and Stetson will host Manhattan in DeLand at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, September 19 all four teams will meet in DeLand where JU will play Manhattan at 12:00 p.m. and Stetson will play FIU at 2:30 p.m.
