DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson baseball team could not get the bats going Tuesday night at Melching Field and fell 6-4 to Siena College. The #30 ranked Hatters fell to 12-4 while the Saints improved to 4-9 on the season.
Robert Crews (Port Charlotte, Fla.) and Nick Rickles (Loxahatchee, Fla.) each contributed a pair of hits, and Trey Blackman (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) added an RBI double, yet the rest of the team went hitless.
Siena managed to score six runs on just eight hits and there were no errors on either side of the scorebook. Saints starting pitcher Robert Tedesco (Schenectady, NY) threw the first four innings allowing three runs on three hits. Reliever C.J. Sohl (Albany, NY) picked up the win and improved to 1-1 after giving up just one run on two hits over five innings.
Stetson starting pitcher Tucker Donahue (Coral Springs, Fla.) surrendered all six runs over 4.1 innings of work. He struck out six batters, walked one and is now 0-1 on the season. Austin Perez (Loxahatchee, Fla.), Joe Dye, Royal Palm Beach, Fla.), Cam Griffin (Naples, Fla.) and Jake Boyd (West Palm Beach, Fla.) combined for 4.2 innings of scoreless relief work with each striking out one batter.
Crews led Stetson's offensive attack with an RBI single in each the 2nd and 4th innings. Rickles knocked in a run in with a double down the left field line in the 7th, and Blackman picked up his RBI with a double to left center in the 4th inning.
Stetson lost to Siena for just the fourth time in 37 games dating back to 1977.
