Nashville, Tenn. - Stetson (41-18) came
up short Friday in Nashville and was knocked out
5-3 by Jacksonville
(36-21). It is the second consecutive season that the Dolphins defeated the
Hatters in an A-Sun Tournament elimination game.
Ben Carhart (Royal Palm Beach,
Fla.) led
Stetson's limited offensive output. He was 2-for-3 in the game and delivered
all three RBI. Mitchel Brennan (Orlando,
Fla.) continued his recent strong
play with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Mark Jones (Bunnell, Fla.)
also had two hits for the Hatters.
JU scored four runs before Stetson cut the deficit
in half with two in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brennan singled, Sean Emory
(Miami, Fla.)
doubled, and both scored on a single to left by Carhart.
The Hatters looked like they might rally when it loaded
the bases with no outs in the seventh yet they could only manage one run in the
inning on a sacrifice fly by Carhart. Stetson finished with eight hits compared
to 12 for Jacksonville.
Stetson's Tucker Donahue (Coral Springs, Fla.)
started his ninth game of the season. He allowed four runs on seven hits and
then had to be pulled after just 3.2 innings when he had built up to 111
pitches. Donahue struck out four, yet walked six. Joe Dye (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) tossed
2.1 innings of hitless and scoreless relief before Jake Boyd (West Palm Beach, Fla.)
finished up the final 3.0 innings on the mound. Boyd allowed one run on four
hits and struck out five batters.
Stetson will now return home to prepare for a likely appearance in an
upcoming NCAA Regional. On Monday at noon the team along with its supporters
will gather at Gator's Dockside in DeLand to watch the NCAA College Baseball
Selection Show that will be broadcast on ESPN at 12:30 p.m. All Stetson fans
are invited to join the team and see where they may be headed.
