Coming off of two straight 22-point victories, the Stetson
men's basketball team will conclude its three-game home stand on Monday night,
hosting South Florida at 7:00 p.m. at the Edmunds Center. It will mark the first meeting between the
Hatters (2-1) and the Bulls (3-2) since Nov. 27, 2006.
"At this point in the season, there's still so much to work
on," Stetson head coach Casey Alexander said. "You're going to face something
new from game to game, but our guys have done a nice job of being ready to play
and playing hard."
This time around that something new will be a South Florida
team that is coming off of an 82-63 win over Bradley.
"It means a lot," Alexander said of bringing the BIG EAST
team to the Edmunds Center. "It's a high
profile game for people who live in this area, especially with USF coming off
of such a great season last year. They return a real high percentage of their
production in general, so their expectations are high."
The Bulls are coming off of one of their best seasons ever
in 2011-12, earning their first ever NCAA Tournament wins and advancing to the
Third Round after victories over California and Temple. The team tied a school record for wins with a
mark of 22-14.
With four of its five starters back, USF has got out to a
bit of a slow start, falling to UCF and Western Michigan in the early part of
the season. Wins over Maryland Eastern
Shore, Loyola-Chicago, and Bradley highlight the early part of the Bulls
season, which has taken place entirely at USF's Sun Dome.
"They will bring a lot of excitement to the Edmunds Center,"
Alexander continued. "I hope people in
DeLand, and Hatter fans everywhere are excited for what's going to happen
Monday night."
Monday night will mark the first time these two teams have
met since 2006, and it will be the first time playing in DeLand since
2005. USF holds a 16-7 advantage over
Stetson in the all-time series, and has won the last 10 meetings, dating back
to 1989. The Hatters, however, hold a
slight 5-4 advantage during games played in DeLand.
The game can be watched live and for free on HatterVision
and ASun.TV with Robbie Aaron and Ryan Rouse on the call. Fans can also listen in on WSBB 1230 AM in
New Smyrna, 1490 AM in DeLand, or on www.myam1230.com. Live Stats, the @StetsonMBB Twitter feed, and
Hat-Alerts are also available for in-game updates.
