GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The
Hatters finished day one of competition at the Bedford Cup in Gainesville on Friday. Egor Pahyuskin had the
lone win for the Hatters on the day.
Pahyuskin defeated Mario Samson (UCF) 6-2, 6-1 in the
opening round. Pahyuskin's second round opponent will be Ravi Patel (USF), who
won his first match against Diego Garavito (Bethune-Cookman) 6-4, 6-0.
Erik Halaj was defeated in his match, falling to Tianyu Bao
(FGCU) 6-2, 6-0, Laurynas Antropikas fell to Diego Soto (Miami) 6-3, 6-4, and Didrik Berg lost to Guillermode
Vilchez (USF) 6-2, 6-4. Cahit Kapukiran won the first set in his match against
Juan Carlos Acuna (USF), but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Halaj, Antropikas, Berg, and Kapukiran will all compete in the
consolation bracket, starting Saturday.
In the doubles competition, the team of Antropikas/Pahyuskin
fell to Bob Van Overbeek and Gordon Watson (UF) 8-2. The team of Berg/Kapukiran
was defeated by Juan Carlos Acuna and Federico Sabogal (USF) 8-2.
