Stetson's sand volleyball pair of Julie Bassett (Wadsworth, Ohio) and Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) have been named the first Atlantic Sun Pair of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Bassett, a sophomore, and Melville, a junior, went 3-1 at the season-opening Ron Jon Beach 'N Boards Fest in Cocoa Beach this past weekend. The duo earned a straight set 21-18, 21-16 win at the no. 2 position against Jacksonville on Saturday. They also earned a 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) win at no. 2 vs. Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday morning. Bassett and Melville finished the tournament with an impressive win playing as the no. 1 seed, 21-15, 23-21 over the UNF team of Daginja Medina and Anna Budinska, last year's A-Sun Pair of the Year and AVCA Nationals participant.
Stetson had two Pair of the Week selections last season, of which Bassett was a member of one pair. It is the first Pair of the Week selection for Melville.
