HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Stetson University captured its eighth ASUN Beach Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 sweep of No. 2 North Florida on Saturday at John Hunt Park. The Hatters completed a dominant tournament run without dropping a single match point, highlighted by
Madeline Camp and
Cayla Sutton earning Pair of the Tournament honors, while also being named to the ASUN All-Tournament Team alongside
Maria Ozaeta and
Marta Carro.
Stetson set the tone early in the championship dual, as the No. 2 pair of
EJ Cudmore and
Julia Radelczuk put the Hatters on the board with a straight-set victory over North Florida's An De Silva Eneisas and Madi Espy, 21-19, 21-15.
The Hatters extended their lead on Court 4, where
Katie Camp and
Anniina Muukka delivered a 21-17, 21-19 win over Sophie Notaro and Kamryn McDonald, putting Stetson one point away from the title.
Fittingly, it was the fifth-pair duo of
Madeline Camp and
Cayla Sutton who clinched the championship. The Pair of the Tournament secured the decisive third point with a 21-19, 21-14 victory over Eden Anderson and Ally Bunch, sealing the sweep and the program's eighth conference crown.
Earlier in the day, Stetson punched its ticket to the championship with a 3-0 semifinal sweep of Florida Gulf Coast. Ozaeta and Carro opened the scoring with a 21-15, 21-19 win at the top flight, while Camp and Sutton added a second point with a 21-17, 21-18 victory on Court 5.
Julia Czurylo and
Zoe Flueckiger then clinched the dual on Court 3 with a 21-15, 21-19 win.
"It was a great day. We've been focused on ourselves and the process all year, and that was our mindset all weekend and heading into this match. We told them not to get distracted by the outcome—we had to focus on winning the process and playing every point at 100 percent. I thought we came out strong, and even when they got a little close, we were able to pull away. Winning the first set on four courts really elevated everyone. I'm so happy we were able to get it done in two sets—it was an incredible team effort, and we're really happy to bring it home," said Head Coach
Kristina Hernandez.
