ATHENS, Ga.—Laurynas Antropikas won a pair of singles matches and a doubles match on the opening day of the ITA Southeast Regional, Thursday at Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Antropikas was one of four Stetson individuals attempting to qualify for the main draw, and the only one who advanced. He opened his day by defeating Kennesaw State's Jake Bouchillon, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. He followed up that effort with a three set victory over Georgia Tech's Elijah Melendez, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Antropikas teamed with Simon Julin to advance to the Round of 32 in the doubles main draw by defeating a tandem from Florida, 8-7 (4).
"Laurynas played with a lot of heart today,” said Stetson associate head coach Christophe Noblet. “After winning two long battles in singles, he and Simon (Julin) teamed up to pull off a great doubles victory against a strong pair."
Antropikas, Loic Blanco and Julin begin play in the main singles draw on Friday afternoon. Gonzalo Arroyo, Graham Ball and Kevin Gonzlaez will each participate in the qualifying consolation round on Friday.
