DeLAND, Fla. — The Stetson Hatters tennis team defeated Morgan State University tennis team 5-2 on Wednesday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center, extending their streak to five straight wins. Stetson secured a sweep in doubles play and captured four of the six singles matches to clinch the victory.
Stetson secured the doubles point decisively, sweeping all three doubles matches against Morgan State. At No. 2 doubles,
Christian Kuehne and Santia Padilla Cote delivered a swift 6-1 victory over Roman Filima and Rhajzon Rankins to set the tone for the match. The pairing of
Kartik Mandla and
Alexandre Verlaguet followed with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles against Majdi Ben Abdelwahed and Yessine Kerouat, while
Xavier Sarda Marti and
James Lorenzetti completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a 6-2 victory over Abdulraheem Isa and Ilya Maltsev.
In singles play,
Alexandre Verlaguet opened with a win at No. 1 singles, defeating Rhajzon Rankins 6-2, 6-3. Santia Padilla Cote added another point for the Hatters with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Yessine Kerouat at No. 5 singles. The Bears' Roman Filima handed the Hatters a singles loss at No. 3 singles, overcoming Mate Stanisavljevic 6-1, 6-4 in a commanding performance.
James Lorenzetti kept the momentum in the Hatters' favor with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mohamed Rid Ghettas at No. 4 singles.
Christian Kuehne clinched the match for the Hatters at No. 2 singles, defeating Ilya Maltsev 6-3, 6-1. The final singles match at No. 6 saw a close contest, with the Bears' Abdulraheem Isa narrowly defeating
Ofek Sivan 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 in the only three-setter of the day.
