Women's Basketball Rolls Past Webber by 63 Points

DeLand, Fla. -- Posting its largest margin of victory in 34 years, Stetson cruised past visiting Webber International 90-27 Friday afternoon for the annual Volusia County Schoolchildren Day at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (6-2) treated an energetic crowd of 2,460 to the one of the top defensive performances in school history.  The Warriors (4-1) managed just 12 first-half points and 15 second-half points, marking the third lowest output by a Hatter opponent in the modern era.

"It is loud, it is the best crowd, and it is the most fun game of the year," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "You can't call anything unless you are in a timeout because nobody can hear you. It is just such an incredible atmosphere. I wish we could play in front of them every game."

Senior Myeisha Hall led five players in double figures with 17 points, while fellow senior C.J. Coddington was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field for a season-best 16 points.

"It's really just a fun game to have all the kids here," Coddington said.  "Their enthusiasm just rubs off on us.  They are full of life, and it is real fun just to play in front of them."

Amber Porter broke the school record for most career blocked shots with her 148th rejection early in the first half.  She surpassed former teammate Sasha Sims, who compiled 147 blocks from 2010-14.

Stetson trailed 6-1 early in the game, but went on 15-0 and 32-4 run to pull away early.  The Hatters shot 52.9 percent from the floor and held the Warriors to just 15.8 percent shooting.  Webber International was 0-for-16 from behind the arc.

Brianti Saunders added 15 points for Stetson, while Jama Sharp and Keevana Edwards scored 11 points each.  Edwards was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field with six rebounds.

"I knew (Keevana) would rebound, because that is what she does best," Bria said.  "Sure enough, she did.  She came in and got an offensive rebound and a putback for us.  I thought she was very effective on both ends of the floor.  I was really happy with her play."

DeAsia Beal posted career highs of seven points and 10 rebounds.  Sarah Sagerer added six points, seven rebounds, and a pair of blocks.

Stetson's 63-point win was the team's largest since a 111-43 decision over Rollins on Jan. 28, 1981.

The Hatters will return to the court Saturday to face Warner University at 12:30 p.m.  The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

Notes: The Hatters won their 20th consecutive non-conference home game ... All eight active players played a minimum of 16 minutes and scored six points or more ... Stetson made a season-high 29 free throws ... The Hatters tied a season-high with 50 rebounds ... The 63-point win was the fourth largest margin of victory in school history and just the fifth 60+ point win in school history ... The only two games the Hatters have allowed fewer than 27 points came against Eckerd College in 1977-78: 103-10 and 69-18.
