DeAsia Beal Ready For Her New Role This Season

Women's Basketball Stetson University

Women's Basketball Nets 100 in Win vs. Warner

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson completed back-to-back decisive home victories with a 101-40 win over visiting Warner University Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Coupled with Friday's 90-27 win over Webber International, the Hatters outscored the two NAIA opponents by a combined 124 points.

Saturday, Amber Porter collected a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds to help Stetson improve to 7-2 on the season.

"I thought Amber had a great game," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "She was very effective in the paint. I thought we did a great job of moving the ball against their zone. We skipped it and had a lot of good shots. I was very pleased with our effort."

Porter was 9-for-13 from the floor to equal her season high in points. She had five offensive boards and six defensive rebounds to claim her 12th career double-double.

"I had been struggling in recent games, so I focused on being confident in myself and being more active to help my team," Porter said.

Myeisha Hall tied a season-high with 19 points, hitting four 3-pointers along the way.  Sarah Sagerer scored 15 points, including a putback on a missed free throw with 25 second remaining that put Stetson over the century mark.

C.J. Coddington registered 11 points and a career-high six steals, while Jama Sharp added 11 points and six assists.

Brianti Saunders had nine points, Keevana Edwards collected five points and 10 rebounds, while DeAsia Beal scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds.

"I know have to get in there and play my role," Beal said.  "The girls today were a little more my height than the 6-foot giants we have been playing against, but I just wanted to focus on boxing out and rebounding."

Stetson held their fifth opponent this season to under 55 points.  The Hatters did not allow a 3-point field goal all weekend as Webber and Warner went 0-for-27 combined from behind the arc.

"I think our defense is a lot better than last year," Bria said.  "I feel like we guard better, we contain the ball better, and we help better. But we have worked on it a lot more. I am pleased with that. Offensively we are a little sloppier than last year, but we haven't worked on it as much. Hopefully, we continue to get better."

Stetson has now won 47 of its last 50 games at home, including all three this season.

The Hatters will take a week off for finals before returning to the court on Dec. 14 to face the Florida Gators in Gainesville.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Notes: Stetson topped the century mark for the first time this season.  The Hatters had three games of 100 points or more last year ... The Hatters won consecutive games by 50 or more points for the first time in school history ... The 61-point win was the fifth largest margin of victory in school history and just the sixth 60+ point win in school history ... The Hatters' .618 field goal percentage was the sixth-best single-game total in school history ... Stetson has won 21 consecutive non-conference home games ... Jama Sharp moved up to ninth on the school's all-time assists list (357).
