Lacrosse Welcomes Eight Newcomers for 2015

DeLAND—Stetson lacrosse head coach Christy Leach recently announced the addition of eight student-athletes for the 2015 season.

“I'm excited about this class,” said Leach, who is in her first season as head coach. “They're ready to help take Stetson to new levels. These ladies bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the team.”

This group of eight newcomers hail from six different states, boast multiple state championships, and have been recognized as high school All-Americans. This class welcomes five midfielders, one defender, one attacker and one goalie to round out all positions. This class will join a cast of 17 returners who hope to carry on the tradition of competing for an A-Sun Conference Championship. The 2015 team will be on the field together for their first fall competition this weekend at Florida Southern.

Maddie Holvey ● M ● Akron, Ohio (Revere HS)
2014 graduate of Revere High School in Richfield, Ohio … a first-team all-district and second-team All-State selection … named Team MVP … earned academic All-American honors … scored 107 goals as a senior, leading team to an 9-6-1 record … was an accomplished soccer player, lettering four years and earning second-team all-league honors … comes from an athletic family as her grandfather, father and brother all competed in athletics on the collegiate level … member of the National Honor Society … chose Stetson over Tampa and others.

Hallie Merz ● A ● Babylon, N.Y. (Babylon HS)
2014 graduate of Babylon High School … scored 33 goals and had 23 assists as a senior … a two-time all-division and two-time academic All-American selection … scored 62 goals in three seasons … helped lead Babylon to the Suffolk County Class C championship in 2012 an a runner-up finish in 2013 … team captain as a senior … also lettered in soccer and basketball … member of the National Honor Society.

Meghan Moran ● M ● Lighthouse Point, Fla. (Cardinal Gibbons)
2014 graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. … four-time first-team all-county and all-district selection … scored 40 goals with 13 assists as a senior … helped lead Cardinal Gibbons to a district runner-up finish in 2014 … also lettered in soccer and cross country … member of the National Honor Society.

Bridget Newfrock ● M/D ● Mountain Lakes, N.J. (Mountain Lakes HS)
2014 graduate of Mountain Lakes High School … played for one of the top lacrosse programs in New Jersey … helped lead Mountain Lakes to the 2014 state championship … a third-team All-State selection as a senior … first-team all-conference and second-team all-county … helped lead Mountain Lakes to a combined record of 42-4 in her final two seasons … team finished her senior year ranked No. 3 in New Jersey and No. 25 nationally by Lax Power … Mountain Lakes also won two Morris County titles and a conference championship … chose Stetson over Elon, High Point and Holy Cross.

Taylor Patrizi ● M ● Cherry Hills, N.J. (Cherry Hill East)
2014 graduate of Cherry Hill East in Cherry Hill, N.J. … All-State and All-South Jersey selection as a senior … two-time all-conference pick … scored 199 career goals … represented New Jersey in the Brine All-America Tournament and also represented her home state at the U.S. Women's Lacrosse National Tournament … played for the South Jersey Devils travel team … also played field hockey in high school … father, Mike, played minor league baseball for the New York Mets and Cleveland Indians.

Kathi Ricci ● M/D ● Vero Beach, Fla. (Vero Beach HS)
2014 graduate of Vero Beach High School … key member of powerful Vero Beach squad which was nationally ranked each of her four seasons … the Fighting Indians won four straight state championships and finished her senior season ranked third nationally … named all-county and all-region … served as team captain her sophomore, junior and senior seasons … member of the National Honor Society  … chose Stetson over UC-Davis, Coastal Carolina, Colgate and High Point.

Rachel Valocchi ● M ● Mooresville, N.C. (Lake Norman HS)
2014 graduate of Lake Norman High School … missed her senior season … helped lead Lake Norman to three conference championships … named the Lake Norman High School athlete of the year as a junior and senior … chosen to the Charlotte Observer all-area team three straight years … scored 833 goals and recorded 106 assists in her career … also lettered and excelled in cross country and basketball … four-time all-conference honoree in cross country and a four-time regional qualifier … also qualified for the state meet as a senior … named academic All-American in lacrosse … also earned NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete honors four straight years.

Michaela Welsh ● G ● White Hall, Md. (North Harford HS)
2014 graduate of North Harford High School in Pylesville, Md. … lettered three seasons at North Harford HS … owned career total so f 60 saves, 19 goals allowed, 13 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers … played club lacrosse for NEMS Lacrosse … chose Stetson over Campbell, Navy and UMBC.
