Stetson University senior guard Myeisha Hall is quietly developing into one of the top players in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
It is not that any one particular statistic stands out, but the variety of ways in which Hall contributes has been a critical component of the team's success this year.
Perhaps her most valuable contribution has been her ability to score on a consistent basis game-in and game-out. Hall has recorded double figures 12 times this season including in each of the past five games. Her 13.2 scoring average is second on the team and eighth among all players in the conference.
Stetson head coach Lynn Bria says Hall has been able maintain such consistency because of her versatility on offense.
“(Myeisha) can score in so many different ways,” Bria said. “She can shoot the 3, she can take you on the bounce, and she can post up. She just has an all-around game. When you can score in a lot of different ways, it is hard to guard. It helps as far as keeping the point totals consistent. If they take away one thing, you can do something else. I think her play has been very, very good.”
Hall has certainly been a valuable asset from behind the arc, hitting at least one 3-pointer in every game this season. After collecting 31 3-pointers as a junior, Hall has already hit 39 this season, tops on the team and third-most in the Atlantic Sun.
The West Palm Beach, Fla. native also garners a heavy workload each night, averaging over 33 minutes a game.
“Her conditioning level and stamina is incredible,” Bria said. “She can go the whole game and it doesn't phase her. She is one of the most well-conditioned athletes I have ever had. It is not just her conditioning but also her strength. She always plays hard.”
Hall says she is focused on just one thing - to get the Hatters back to the Atlantic Sun Championship.
She and her teammates will go for their third win a row on Thursday when Stetson (13-4, 2-1 A-Sun) hosts Kennesaw State (13-5, 2-1) at the Edmunds Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN3.
Despite winning the last 12 head-to-head meetings with the Owls, including last year's A-Sun quarterfinal win, the Hatters will be facing a much improved Kennesaw State team. The Owls won 11 non-conference games and have conference victories over USC Upstate and Northern Kentucky. Sophomore guard Deandrea Sawyers leads the league in scoring (16.8 ppg) while junior forward Jasmine McAllister averages a double-double (14.1 ppg, 10.1 rpg).
"I think (the Owls) are the most improved team in our league," Bria said. "They have a good inside-outside game, and they play extremely hard. We are going to have to guard, inside and out. They have a balanced attack. McAllister commands a lot of attention, but you can't just focus on her because they have some threats on the perimeter you really have to be aware of."
Stetson will be looking to extend its home court winning streak to nine in a row.
Tickets start at just $5 and can be purchased online or at the Edmunds Center box office. Stetson faculty, staff, and students are free with a valid ID card.
In addition to the ESPN3 broadcast, fans can listen to the Stetson audio broadcast with Ryan Rouse on HatterVision. Live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed, and the HatCheck text messaging system will provide live updates as well.
