Hatters Overwhelmed in Opener, 108-85

RICHMOND, Va.—Cameron Harvey led six Stetson Hatters in doubles figures with 17 points, but Richmond's offensive prowess was too much for the Hatters in a 108-85 season-opening loss, Sunday at Robins Center.

T.J. Cline led Richmond (1-1) with 27 points, as the Spiders placed four players in double digits. The Spiders shot 54.5 percent for the game, including better than 62 percent in the first half en route to a 57-33 halftime lead.

Harvey finished 5-of-8 from the field, and was perfect on four attempts from the 3-point arc. He made three of his four free throw attempts in 17 minutes of play.

Junior forward Brian Pegg recorded his fifth career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, but his efforts on the boards wasn't enough as the Hatters were dominated on the glass by a 45-32 margin.

Four freshmen made their debuts for the Hatters on Sunday, and three enjoy solid offensive games. Derick Newton and Ty Cockfield each scored 12 points, while Leo Goodman added 10. Sophomore transfer Luke Doyle – playing in his first game in 20 months – scored 10 off the bench.

Stetson was an impressive 11-of-23 from three-point range, but Richmond capitalized on 15 of its 31 three-point attempts. Overall, the Hatters shot just over 47 percent from the field for the game.

Richmond's ShawnDre Jones added 21 points, while Terry Allen chipped in 17 with seven boards, six assists, three steals and three blocks. Marshall Wood had 17 points and nine boards off the bench.
