DeLAND—Stetson women's tennis won five of six singles matches on their way to a 5-2 victory over Bethune-Cookman, Wednesday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Hatters lost the doubles point but stormed back to win five of six matches in singles play, with all five wins coming in straight sets.
"We played our best match of the season in singles today against a very tenacious Bethune-Cookman team," said Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote. "Cookman played very well in doubles. We will have to improve before our next match.”
Stetson struggled in doubles play, as only the team of Isabella Fernandez and Eveline Lepinay at No. 2 recorded a victory, winning 6-4. The No. 1 team of Alizee Michaud and Ashley Dean suffered a 6-4 loss, while the No. 3 tandem of Arijana Korac and Carolina Meregalli lost, 6-2
Down 1-0 on the scoreboard, the Hatters (5-1) went to work in singles play. Lepinay began the Hatters' run with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Michaud followed Lepinay with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1.
Stetson grabbed a 3-1 lead in the match with Dean's 6-4, 6-2 win at No.5, while Korac picked up a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
Fernandez clinched the match for Stetson with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2.
The Hatters return to action when they host South Carolina State, noon, Saturday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
