Jacksonville, Fla. -- Myeisha Hall scored a career-high 23 points and Jama Sharp added 19 as visiting Stetson defeated Jacksonville 73-67 Wednesday night at Swisher Gym.
Amber Porter registered a season-high seven blocked shots as the Hatters (21-6, 10-3 A-Sun) extended their winning streak to five.
“Jama started us out in the second half by hitting those 3s, and then Myeisha got going,” Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. “She just wanted the ball and was very determined to score. She just put the team on her back and carried us.”
The Hatters trailed 33-32 at halftime, but Sharp hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the first four minutes of the second half to help Stetson build a 10-point lead.
“We needed somebody to get us going,” Bria said. “It got everyone going. (Jama) gave us great leadership in the second half.”
Hall was a force after that point, hitting all five of her shots to help Stetson maintain the lead. She had several strong drives to the basket, a one-handed turnaround jumper in the lane, and a long 18-foot jump shot with 3:29 to play.
Brianti Saunders drove home the final nail with a 3-pointer at the 2:44 mark.
Porter and Saunders each finished with 10 points as four Hatters scored in double figures. Stetson shot 47 percent from the floor and 56 percent from behind the arc. The Hatters also went 22-for-30 from the free throw line.
Sherranda Reddick led JU (11-15, 6-7) with 26 points.
Stetson will host UNF in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Seniors Cherisse Burris, C.J. Coddington, Hall, and Sharp will be honored before the game.
Notes: Amber Porter recorded seven blocks for the first time this season and the sixth time in her career. Six of the blocks came in the first half ... It was also an individual high in the Atlantic Sun this year ... Jama Sharp surpassed 1200 career points and moved into 15th place on the Hatters all-time scoring list.
