DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson's offense was held to a season-low points total as Florida Gulf Coast came away with a 61-39 victory Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.
The Hatters (16-6, 5-3 Atlantic Sun) shot just 26.5% from the floor and 11.5% from behind the arc. The loss snapped Stetson's 10-game home court winning streak.
"It was a tale of two halves for us," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "We played pretty well in the first half. I thought the last couple minutes of the half, momentum started to shift a little bit. In the second half, basically they hit shots, and we didn't. We had open shots but didn't make them, and they made theirs. Rebounding and all the other stats were about the same, but that was the biggest difference in the game."
Amber Porter led Stetson with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Myeisha Hall added 10 points while playing all 40 minutes.
Stetson held FGCU (21-2, 8-0) scoreless through the first seven and a half minutes of the game. The Hatters led 9-0 at that point, but FGCU rallied for a 26-20 halftime lead.
"Certainly everyone talks about FGCU's offense, and you have to prepare, but you have to find a way to score against them," Bria said. "Their defense is good as well. I didn't think our defense was bad, we held them to 61 points, we just didn't put the ball in the basket."
The Eagles (21-2, 8-0 A-Sun) shot 37% for the game and 41% from 3-point range to extend their win streak to 16.
Jama Sharp collected her 400th career assist, while Porter became the first Hatter to surpass 50 blocks in a season in back-to-back years.
The Hatters will host Lipscomb at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
