DeLAND—The Stetson women's tennis team kept right on rolling along Saturday, earning a 4-3 win over Lipscomb in Atlantic Sun Conference play at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
Saturday's victory is the fifth straight for the Hatters (14-2) and kept them perfect in conference play at 4-0. The Hatters are currently tied atop the A-Sun standings with North Florida with two conference matches remaining. FGCU is 3-0 pending the outcome of their match late Saturday.
"Today we were fortunate to best a very good Lipscomb tennis team," said Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote. “(Lipscomb) Coach (Jamie) Aid has done a great job building a championship caliber team."
Stetson's win on Saturday came on the strength of their singles play. The Hatters lost the doubles point, but won the first four singles matches of the day to secure the win.
Freshman Alizee Michaud, the A-Sun's top singles player, breezed to another win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1. Michuad is 13-0 this spring and has yet to drop a set. She hasn't lost more than three games in any set since Jan. 30 at FIU.
Eveline Lepinay at No. 6 gave the Hatters a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Isabella Fernandez made it a 3-1 amtch with her 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2, and Ashley Dean clinched the match for the Hatters with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph at No. 4.
Arijana Korac (No. 3) and Carolina Meregalli (No. 5) lost their singles matches, but those losses came after the Hatters won the team match.
Stetson can take a huge step toward clinching the A-Sun regular season title on Thursday when they visit UNF in Jacksonville.
