Michaud Earns Automatic Bid to NCAA Championships

DeLAND—Stetson's Alizee Michaud has been selected to compete as an individual at the 2015 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships, May 20-25 at Baylor University's Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

Michaud, the Atlantic Sun Conference Player and Freshman of the Year, is the only individual from the A-Sun selected as an automatic qualifier to participate in the NCAAs. Michaud is currently ranked as the No. 91 singles player in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

“Being selected to the NCAA Championship is an appropriate end to Alizee's great freshman season,” said Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote. “I believe that she can do quite well in the tournament.”

Michaud was not only undefeated in singles play this spring (15-0) she failed to drop a set. Michaud was a perfect 6-0 in Atlantic Sun Conference matches. She is the first Stetson women's tennis player to be selected as an individual automatic qualifier.

Michaud's selection was based primarily on her ITA ranking. Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players. All singles players must have a minimum of 13 completed singles matches, with six matches in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.
