DeKALB, Ill.—Loyola-Chicago's Ben Crognale scored the only goal of the match in the 101st minute to lead the Ramblers to a 1-0 win over Stetson in the opening round of the NIU/Adidas Invitational, Friday at the NIU Soccer Complex.
Stetson (2-2-1) and Loyola (2-2-1) battled through 100 scoreless minutes before Crognale struck less than 60 seconds into the second overtime period.
The match was a defensive struggle from the start, as the teams combined for just 14 shots, with 13 of those coming from Loyola. The Hatters managed just one shot for the entire game, that off the foot of Jeppe Moe.
Crognale's goal ruined a strong night in goal for Stetson's Paul Ladwig, who made four saves.
The Hatters next face tournament host Northern Illinois, 2:30 p.m., Sunday.
