Nashville, Tenn. -- Brianti Saunders seems to save her best performances for the Lipscomb Bisons.
Monday, the Hatter junior scored 35 points to lead Stetson to an 83-62 Atlantic Sun Conference victory over Lipscomb at Allen Arena.
Saunders was 10-for-14 from the field with four 3-pointers while going a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Three of her top four career scoring games have now come against Lipscomb.
"I think Lipscomb is a great team," Saunders said. "They guard pretty well, and I was fortunate to be able to score. I knew I had to be aggressive for us to get this important win on the road."
Stetson coach Lynn Bria, who picked up her 296th career victory, said she was just as pleased with Saunders' defensive effort as she was with her offensive output.
"I am just really proud of her because in the first half, she carried us," Bria said. "She is guarding really well also. She is playing both ends of the floor really well."
DeAsia Beal added a career-high 15 points, while Ida Andersson chipped in nine points, all in the 3rd quarter.
Stetson (12-7, 3-2 A-Sun) led 35-34 at halftime, behind a 20-point first half from Saunders. A strong defensive effort led to an 18-7 surge to start the 3rd quarter helping Stetson take control of the game.
"I thought we played with a lot more energy in the second half," Bria said. "We pressured better and turned them over a little bit, and got their field goal percentage down."
After shooting 60 percent in the first half, Lipscomb (3-17, 0-5) shot just 31 percent after the break. The Hatters shot 50 percent in the second half and 48 percent for the game.
Stetson will visit Jacksonville at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
Notes: Saunders' 35 points tied for the fourth-highest single-game total in school history. It was her second-highest career total (40 vs. Georgia Southern) ... Her 11-for-11 shooting from the line also tied for the fourth-best single-game performance in school history ... Saunders has scored over 30 points five times in her career, and three of those have come against Lipscomb. She also scored 33 and 31 points against the Bisons last year. Both those games came at the Edmunds Center ... Saunders has scored in double figures in all 19 games this season and leads the Atlantic Sun in scoring (19.5 ppg).
