Jacksonville, Fla. -- Jacksonville used a late 23-4 surge to defeat visiting Stetson 69-49 in an Atlantic Sun Conference game Saturday afternoon at Swisher Gym.
The Hatters (12-8, 3-3 A-Sun) trailed by just one point, 46-45, early in the fourth quarter, but the Dolphins (14-7, 6-0) went on a 16-0 run over a six-minute stretch to take control of the game.
"I think in the fourth quarter, we didn't score and they did," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "I was a little disappointed. Every time we struggle to score, we seem to let down defensively. We have to be more of a mature team. We still have to guard, even though our offense isn't going."
Local product Brianti Saunders (Hilliard, Fla.) led the Hatters with 18 points, extending her season-long double figures streak to 20 games. Aisha Turner had eight points, while Breana Bey and McKenna Beach had seven points apiece.
"I thought Bey and (Brianti) both had good games," Bria said. "I thought McKenna was very, very aggressive. Overall, I was proud how well we took care of the ball."
Jacksonville shot 53 percent from the floor and outrebounded Stetson 42-26. The Hatters shot 33 percent.
"I think rebounding was a key," Bria said. "We have to find a way to get some offensive rebounds when we are not scoring."
Stetson will return home to face UNF at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Hatters and Dolphins will meet again next Saturday at the Edmunds Center.
Notes: The Hatters were uncharacteristically cold from the free throw line, hitting just 7-of-13 shots ... Stetson had a season-low three assists ... With her 18 points, Brianti Saunders moved past Jama Sharp and Brenda Elrod into 11th place all-time in school history with 1273 points scored.
