Pavao's OT Goal Extends Win Streak to Seven Straight

Stetson's Eduarda Pavao scored on a header less than two minutes into overtime to lift the Hatters to a 3-2 win over North Florida, Saturday at the Athletic Training Center.

The win extends Stetson's winning streak to a school-record seven straight games and keeps the Hatters (8-4-2) perfect (5-0-0) in Atlantic Sun Conference play with two matches remaining.

One of two seniors – along with Alyssa Swett – playing in their final home match, Pavao used a perfect corner kick from Briana Camargo and got just enough on the shot to elude the reach of UNF keeper Victoria Ekeli in the 92nd minute.

It was a wild finish to one of the most exciting games of the season as Stetson was forced to claw back from an early deficit.

UNF (6-7-2, 2-4-0) grabbed an early 1-0 lead on a Tori Hamel goal in the seventh minute. Hamel took advantage when Gabrielle Liguori's cross glanced off upper corner of the front post, leaving the far side of the goal open for an easy score.

Stetson quickly answered when Sarah Collins scored the first of her two goals. Pavao and Abbie Camargo teamed up on the assist as Collins made a strong run up the left sideline and scored from inside the box, knotting the match at 1-1 in the 12th minute.

Krista Colubiale gave the lead back to Ospreys in the 28th minute when her header found the back of the net.

Stetson dominated play after halftime but couldn't find the net until Collins scored in the 76th minute. Allison Zaccheo drew a foul just outside the box and Annette Morton's free kick found Collins in the box, who headed a shot past Ekeli, knotting the game at two and setting the stage for Pavao's heroics.

After a tough start freshman goalkeeper Emily Plotz was a brick wall down the stretch for the Hatters, making seven saves for the game. Ekeli finished with eight saves.

The Hatters next face a showdown for the ASUN regular-season title when they visit defending champion FGCU, 6 p.m., Monday in Fort Myers. If the Hatters win they'll clinch the program's first conference championship in women's soccer.
