Women's Basketball Adds Three Signees for 2017-18

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson University women's basketball head coach Lynn Bria announced the signing of Kendall Lentz (Garland, Texas/John Paul II HS), Megan Vincent (Keller, Texas/Keller HS) and Sydney Wagner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford Senior HS) on Thursday. The four student-athletes will join the Hatters for the 2017-18 season.

Bria says she expects all three players will be impact players for the Hatters.

Lentz, a 5-11 forward, averaged 14 points per game as a junior at John Paul II High School.  She earned first team all-district and second team All-State honors, and she was named her district's Defensive Player of the Year.  She was also a TAPPS All-State Academic performer.

"Kendall can play at the 4 or the 3," Bria said.  "She has had some great coaching out there in Texas.  She played on a really good AAU team.  She has a great touch around the basket.  She can score on the low block and also step out and shoot.  She really thinks and sees the game at a high level.  She will fit into our system really well."

Vincent, a 6-4 forward, was named an Adidas All-American at Keller High School. Last season she earned district Defensive Player of the Year honors.  She recently opened the 2016-17 season with a 13-point, six-rebound, four-block performance against Grapevine High School.

"Megan has great size, great mobility, and she has a really good touch around the basket," Bria said.  "She is going to be a really good pivot for us - a true 5.  She can also step out and shoot when she needs to.  She has three-point range.  I really like defensively what she is going to do for us as well.  She will alter a lot of shots.

Both Lentz and Vincent played for Texas Fire Black AAU program.

"I am really happy we got two kids from Texas because the basketball is just so good out there," Bria said.  "The high school coaching is superb.  Those kids out there play tough.  They come from tough programs and play against tough competition, so I am really glad we have two kids from Texas."

Wagner, a 5-6 point guard, was named a first-team all-conference performer as a junior at Spring-Ford Senior High School.  She averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 steals-per-game, and she helped lead her team to the Pioneer conference championship in 2014.

"Sydney is the ultimate point guard," Bria said.  "When I think of her I just think of this really tough player.  She understands the game at a high level.  She passes unbelievably well.  She is relentless on both ends of the floor.  I don't know if I have ever seen a high school player so aggressive.  She will come right in and be an impact player for us.

"This is the first Pennsylvania kid we have signed since I have been here," Bria added.  "It is another great state as far as basketball and competition.  Sydney has had some great coaching at her AAU and high school programs."

The Hatters open the season at 5 p.m. Friday against Webber International.
