Sarah Sagerer Named ASUN Player of the Week

Junior forward blocks 13 shots in two Hatter victories

DeLand, Fla. – After blocking an NCAA-best 13 shots over a two-game span, Stetson University junior forward Sarah Sagerer (Schörfling, Austria) has been named ASUN Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Sagerer blocked five shots in Stetson's season-opening win over Webber on Friday, then tied a school single-game record with eight blocked shots in Saturday's victory over Valparaiso. She became just the fourth player in school history to record eight blocked shots in a game. Her 13 blocks leads the NCAA following the first weekend of games.

Sagerer also averaged 10.5 points and 11.0 rebounds to help lead the Hatters to a 2-0 start on the season. Her 11-point, 15-rebound performance against Valparaiso was the fifth double-double of her career.

It is the first ASUN Player of the Week honor for Sagerer, who earned Newcomer of the Week honors as freshman two seasons ago.

Also, senior guard Brianti Saunders was named ASUN Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. Saunders averaged 16.0 points and 3.0 assists in the two victories.

Stetson will host Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at the Edmunds Center.
