Free Throw Shooting Bolsters Hatters Hot Start

Sunday's dramatic overtime victory over Weber State saw the Hatters rally from 10-down in the first half and from additional deficits in fourth quarter and overtime.  A look at the final stat sheet shows the Wildcats having the advantage in field goals made (29-27), 3-pointers made (2-1), and rebounds (46-37).  However, it was Stetson's 15-8 advantage from the free throw line that helped make the difference in the game.  The Hatters also owned a 22-9 free throw advantage over Robert Morris in Friday's 66-60 win.

For the season, Stetson is shooting 78.9 percent from the free throw line, a mark that leads the ASUN and ranks 19th among all teams in the NCAA. Four different Hatters are currently shooting 80 percent or better, including Brianti Saunders (.917), Breana Bey (.862), McKenna Beach (.833), and Myka Johnson-Matthews (.800).

At 6-1, the Hatters are off to their best start in 16 years.  Next, Stetson will visit Northern Kentucky (2-3) Wednesday morning in a local elementary school game for the Norse.  Tip-off at the BB&T Center is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. with live coverage on WatchESPN and WSBB radio.

The two former ASUN foes met seven times between 2013-15, with the Hatters owning a 4-3 edge in the all-time series.

Live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed (@StetsonWBB), and the new HatCheck text messaging system will provide in-game updates as well.
