Hatters Set to Battle #23 USF on Friday

Stetson's final tune-up before the start of conference play will come Friday night when the Hatters visit the 23rd-ranked USF Bulls in Tampa.  Tip-off at the USF SunDome is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live coverage on WSBB radio.

At 11-3, Stetson has had a terrific start to the season, despite  a 56-50 loss to Tennessee State just prior to Christmas break.  The Hatters have since returned to practice and are looking forward to facing the Bulls on Friday.

"It is going to be a tough match-up," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "They can all score.  They transition very well, and they rebound well.  They are just a good team.  They are ranked for a reason.  I like playing a team of their caliber because I think it really shows you where you are.  It is a good time for a game like this."

Stetson continues to excel from the free throw line, where the Hatters own the nation's second-best free throw shooting percentage at .815.  Individually, Brianti Saunders ranks ninth in the NCAA with a .929 mark from the charity stripe.

Saunders also leads the team in scoring (17.1 ppg), assists (41) and steals (23).  She has scored in double figures in all 14 games this season.

Breana Bey is coming off a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double performance against Tennessee State. She averages 14.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, and her .594 field goal percentage ranks 23rd nationally.

With six more blocked shots in the Hatter Classic, Sarah Sagerer now has racked up 46 blocks on the season.  As of Wednesday, only Jasmine Joyner of Chattanooga has more blocked shots (48) this season than Sagerer.

USF, meanwhile, is 10-1 on the season and ranked 23rd in this week's AP Top 25 Poll.  Offensively, the Bulls average 80.5 points per game, led by Kitija Laksa's mark of 21.2 ppg.

"They always have at least four people on the floor that can shoot the 3, so you really have to guard and be disciplined in what you do," Bria said.

In addition to the WSBB radio broadcast, the game will be streamed by BullsVision on a subscription basis.  Live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed (@StetsonWBB), and the new HatCheck text messaging system will provide in-game updates as well.

Following Friday's game, the Hatters will gear up for the start of ASUN play, which begins on Jan. 7 at home against Florida Gulf Coast.
