DeLand, Fla. -- Florida Gulf Coast defeated Stetson 60-47 in the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season finale Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.
The Hatters (18-10, 9-5 A-Sun) will enter the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 seed Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Friday night.
On Saturday, Stetson led 25-22 at the break, but the Hatters scored just seven points in the third quarter and 15 in the fourth. The Eagles (26-4, 14-0) tallied 38 second-half points to come away with the victory.
"Defensively, I felt like we actually did a pretty good job," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "We gave up too many points in the fourth quarter. Offensively, I thought we had some really good looks and didn't put them in. You have to put them in when you have those good shots. You have to finish around the basket, and we didn't do that."
Stetson shot 40 percent for the game, but hit just 2-of-9 shots during the third quarter. Breana Bey led the way with 12 points, while Myka Johnson-Matthews and Brianti Saunders added 10 points apiece. Saunders also registered eight rebounds and four assists.
The Hatters held a 35-30 edge on the boards but committed 19 turnovers to just eight for the Eagles.
If the seeds hold in the quarterfinal round, Stetson would face FGCU again in the Atlantic Sun semifinals on March 9. The Hatters swept the season series from Kennesaw State.
Notes: Brianti Saunders became the fifth player in school history to scoree 500 points in a single season.
