Lafayette, La. -- The Stetson women's basketball team had its season come to end after falling 56-47 to Louisiana in the WBI quarterfinals Saturday night at E.K. Long Gym.
The Hatters (20-12) completed their sixth straight 20-win season after making their sixth straight appearance in postseason play.
The Hatters led 21-16 at the half, but the Ragin' Cajuns (23-10) outscored Stetson 24-9 in the third quarter to take the lead for good. Louisiana's pressure defense helped force 28 Hatter turnovers.
"I thought in the first half we played pretty well," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "In the second half, they just raised their game. I thought their pressure bothered us and we just turned it over entirely too many times."
Freshman Myka Johnson-Matthews led the Hatters with 12 points. Brianti Saunders and Breana Bey added 10 points each. Saunders finished the season with 570 points, the second-highest single-season points total in school history.
"When you look at the body of work, you can't take away from winning 20 games," Bria said. "I was really proud of their effort throughout the season."
With no seniors on the 2015-16 squad, the Hatters will have the entire roster back next season.
