Men's Tennis Falls in A-Sun Quarterfinals

SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Stetson men's tennis saw its 2016 season come to a close on Friday with a 4-3 loss to Kennesaw State in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.

The Hatters (11-11) and the Owls played their match at two different venues and endured a rain delay of more than five hours in order to finish their contest. In the end, Kennesaw State outlasted the Hatters.

Shortly after Kennesaw State won the doubles point by winning matches at Nos. 1 and 3, the match was halted as heavy rain made its way into Spartanburg. After a delay of more than five hours, the match was moved across town to the indoor facility at Furman University. Stetson immediately took advantage.

Loic Blanco and Laurynas Antropikas quickly gave the Hatters a 2-1 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Blanco won 6-4, 6-1 and Antropikas won 6-2, 6-4.

Kennesaw State evened the match with a win at No. 4, but the Hatters regained the lead when Graham Ball outlasted his opponent at No. 3 for a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 victory.

The Owls clinched the match with a three-set victory at No. 5.

"Congratulations to Kennesaw for winning today's match and advancing,” Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet said. “I want to thank our three great seniors for all the effort and passion they gave to this program for the past four years. Now it is time to start working on next year already, as I know we have a bright future ahead of us.”
