Hatters Eliminated With Loss to Kennesaw State

Fort Myers, Fla, -- The 2016 Stetson softball season came to end Friday as Kennesaw State defeated the Hatters 5-2 on the third day of the Atlantic Sun Conference championship in Fort Myers.

The Hatters finished the tournament in fourth place with a 1-2 mark and finished the season with a record of 30-24.

"I am real proud of the way we battled today and throughout the week," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said. "Give credit to Kennesaw State. They got a few more timely hits than we did. Overall, I thought we had a great season with a very young team, and I am excited for our future."

Freshman Tori Perkins carried a no-hitter and a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning, but the Owls (30-27) scored five times on six hits to take the lead. Perkins pitched 25 innings during the tournament, including a 5-0 shutout over Lipscomb on Thursday.

Senior Kayla Drury went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored, while fellow senior Brittany Hawn went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles.

The Hatters recorded their fourth consecutive 30-win season and made their fifth consecutive postseason appearance. Molly Shasteen, Morgan Hatch, Jessica Griffin, Hawn and Drury each completed successful four-year careers.
