The Stetson University football team finished its third overall day of preseason practice on Thursday evening, as the fifth year program continues to work its way through the early stages of 2016 in preparation for the regular season.
Hatters head coach Roger Hughes continues to see a large amount of improvement in the players and is thrilled with their commitment, maturity and development compared to where it was just a few years ago.
With a very impressive recruiting class onboard, along with great leadership from the upperclassmen, the Hatters are poised for a productive season. The team is stronger with better fitness than it had in the past, and the talent continues to impress.
“Each year we are getting our talent levels better. I really like this freshman class. The whole thing top to bottom has gotten better each year,” said Hughes. “I don't need smart kids to play football, I need football players to be smart, and that is what we are getting.”
The team practiced for the first time with shoulder pads on Thursday. The Hatters will do so again on Friday, before going to full pads on Saturday.
The 2016 Stetson football team will open with three consecutive home games in September at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium. Online ticket sales for new season tickets and mini plans are available as are single-game tickets.
