DeLAND—Kendall Harmon scored a goal and had an assist and Adrianna Suarez had two assists of her own to lead Stetson to a 4-2 win over Saint Leo, Sunday at the ATC.
The victory, Stetson's first of the season, improves the Hatters to 1-1-2 on the season. This was the season-opener for Saint Leo.
The Hatters enjoyed a spectacular offensive first half as they dominated the Lions, getting 12 shots to six for Saint Leo. Sarah Collins was the first Hatter to get on the board, scoring in the 23rd minute off a double assist from Harmon and Eduarda Pavao. The goal was the third of the season for Collins.
Harmon gave Stetson a 1-0 lead with her season's first goal in the 29th minute. The junior blew past the entire Lions defense, running up the left side and connecting with Suarez and Briana Camargo on a powerful goal as Stetson upped its advantage to 2-0.
Lindsey Parent scored her first collegiate goal when the freshman took a perfect feed from Suarez in the middle of the pitch and beat her nearest defender for an easy goal, making it a 3-0 affair in the 35th minute.
Saint Leo got on the board when Chelsea Reid scored in the 39th minute, but the hatters came right back and scored just before halftime when Allison Zaccheo scored off a thru ball from Hailey Williams to make it a 4-1 game at the break.
The Lions scored the game's final goal in the 57th minute, but the result was never in doubt after halftime.
Stetson goalkeeper Kahri Smith picked up the win, playing all 90 minutes and making three saves.
The Hatters return to action when they visit Florida Atlantic, 7 p.m., Friday in Boca Raton.
