Hatters Win Their Fifth in a Row, 68-44 Over UNF

Defense leads the way once again

DeLand, Fla. -- Breana Bey scored 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting and added seven boards as Stetson won its fifth game in a row, 68-44 over visiting UNF Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Stetson's defense was brilliant once again as the Hatters (16-5, 5-1 ASUN) held their second straight ASUN opponent to under 45 points. Stetson drew five charges in the first half alone and outrebounded the Ospreys (8-13, 1-5) 38-22.

"I was most proud of our defense," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "When the offense isn't going so well, sometimes your defense breaks down, and our defense didn't. I thought our defense was excellent. "

On an afternoon where Brianti Saunders went 2-for-12 and didn't score her first points until late on the third quarter, plenty of other Hatters stepped up in her place.  Bey was dominant in the paint once again while Brittney Chambers hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 points off the bench.

"Bey was a monster on the glass and was very, very effective," Bria said.  "I thought Brittney Chambers carried us in the first half hitting those 3s.  That really opened up the game."

McKenna Beach also scored 10 points, while Sarah Sagerer finished with eight points, eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks.  She now has 69 blocks on the season.

Saunders hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with six points, four rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Hatters hit nine 3-pointers in the game.

Stetson's five-game win streak is a season-high.

The Hatters will go for six in a row Thursday night at Jacksonville.

Notes: Stetson held an 18-2 advantage in second chance points and a 26-12 advantage in points in the paint … The Hatters have outshot and outrebounded all six ASUN opponents … Stetson had 21 assists on 25 field goals … Brittney Chambers drew three charges, while Brianti Saunders and DeAsia Beal each drew one … Sarah Sagerer recorded her 600th career point and 500th career rebound … The Hatters are now 10-2 at home this season and 80-11 over the past 91 home games.
