Hatters Edged in Regular Season Finale

Georgia Southern's Aldair Cortes scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute as Stetson suffered a 2-1 loss to the Eagles in the Hatters' regular-season finale, Tuesday in Statesboro, Ga.

All of the scoring in Tuesday's game took place during a 5-minute stretch late in the second half. After more than 70 minutes of scoreless soccer, Georgia Southern (7-7-0) took an early 1-0 lead on Blake Wilson's goal in the 73rd minute.

Stetson (7-6-2) answered back when Eyal Cohen's free kick from 30 yards away found the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1 in the 76th minute.

Less than two minutes later Cortes worked a give-and-go and beat Stetson keeper Joseph Melong from in close for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Georgia Southern out-shot the Hatters, 22-5, forcing Melong into making a career-high 10 saves.

The Hatters won't play again until the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament, Nov. 5 in DeLand. Stetson will enter the postseason as the ASUN's No. 1 seed.
