Hatters Fall in ASUN Quarterfinals

Jacksonville's Sope Akindoju scored a pair of goals in the second half to lead the sixth-seeded Dolphins to a 2-0 win over No. 3 seed Stetson in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Conference Tournament, Saturday at the Athletic Training Center.

The win advances JU (5-10-0) to a semifinal matchup against FGCU next Friday in Nashville, Tenn. Stetson ends its season with a 9-4-3 record.

After a scoreless first half, Akindoju scored nearly identical goals 10 minutes apart early in the second half. Both goals were assisted by Joelle D'Entremont and were breakaways from near midfield.

Akindoju's first goal came in the 49th minute when D'Entremont knocked a pass forward to a streaking Akindoju, who beat Stetson keeper Emily Plotz for a 1-0 lead.

Just over 10 minutes later the Dolphin duo was at it again. D'Entremont stole a pass at midfield and flicked ahead to Akindoju for an easy score and what proved to be an insurmountable 2-0 lead.

The Hatters out-shot Jacksonville, 18-9, but JU keeper Brittany Hundley made eight saves.
