Hatters Set to Battle #2 Texas on Sunday

Kendall Lentz, Megan Vincent Return Home to Lone Star State

Five different Hatters made their Stetson debut on Friday, including freshmen Kendall Lentz and Megan Vincent.  The two Texas natives helped contribute to Stetson's 92-41 season-opening victory of Thomas University at the Edmunds Center.

"I was definitely a little nervous before I got in, but once you step on the court and you start getting into the offense and the defense, it helps you calm down and just play the game," Lentz said.

"I was definitely nervous, too," Vincent added.  "I think I dropped the ball the first couple of possessions, but after that I think we all picked it up and played together as team really well."

Now Lentz and Vincent will enjoy a trip back to their home state as the Hatters (1-0) prepare for Sunday showdown against the second-ranked Texas Longhorns (0-0).

Both players hail from the Dallas-Fort Worth area – Lentz from Garland and Vincent from Keller.   They first met playing for Marty Murphy's Texas Fire team prior to their junior year and became fast friends.

The pair committed to Stetson in October 2016, Vincent deciding just a few days ahead of Lentz.  Both say knowing each other ahead of time made the initial transition to college much easier, and the rest of the team has provided a great support network ever since.

"I really feel like the team has done a good job welcoming me and helping me throughout this process," Vincent said.

Both Lentz and Vincent expect a large contingent of friends and family on hand for Sunday's game.

"I am so excited to head back to Texas," Lentz said.  "Practically my whole family is going to be there. It's kind of ridiculous, but I appreciate their love and support."

Stetson and Texas will tip-off at 2 p.m. ET Sunday with live coverage on the Longhorn Network (LHN).  It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools and the first time the Hatters have faced a team ranked No. 2 in the nation.

"It is going to be a challenge for us," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I think they are one of the best defensive teams in the country.  I don't know that anyone teaches and coaches defense better than Karen Aston.  We have to take care of the basketball and get back on defense."
