Hatters Return Home to Face Chattanooga on Wednesday

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson will play its third game in six days Wednesday as the Hatters host defending SoCon Champion Chattanooga at the Edmunds Center.

Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the first game of a Stetson basketball doubleheader.  The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and WSBB radio.

The Hatters (1-1) are coming off a 95-59 defeat at No. 2 Texas on Sunday where head coach Lynn Bria saw some bright spots and plenty the team still needs to work on.

"I thought we executed our offense pretty well, especially in the first half, but I thought we got away from it in the second half," Bria said.  "I thought Michelle (Pruitt) and Syd (Wagner) were aggressive, which I really liked.  I thought McKenna Beach had one of her best games considering all the pressure she got.  Maybe she didn't score, but for her to have the assist-to-turnover ratio she did, and to go against that kind of pressure when they were that big was great for us.

"I saw some encouraging things, but our transition defense was terrible," Bria added. "We knew they would run, and even when we got back we weren't matched up.  We up gave entirely too many points in transition."

Stetson is now preparing for Chattanooga (0-2), the second of five 2017 NCAA tournament opponents for the Hatters.  The Mocs are coming off a close 58-57 loss to UCF on Monday.

"They are big, they are going to rebound hard, and we have to do a better job on the glass," Bria said.  "I think they are going to play a lot of zone and we are probably going to see a 2-2-1 press.  We just have to take care of the ball and not give up transition baskets."

Offensively, the Hatters are averaging 75.5 points-per-game and shooting 54.7 percent from the field.  Freshman Michelle Pruitt is a perfect 11-for-11 from the floor, tops in the NCAA, while Kennedi Colclough (.750), Jordan Tully (.571), Brittney Chambers (.500) and Megan Vincent (.500) are each at 50 percent or above.

Beach leads the team with 13 assists and Vincent has recorded a team-high five steals.

The Mocs defeated the Hatters 66-55 in Chattanooga last season.

Tickets start at just $7 for general admission and can be purchased online or at the Edmunds Center box office.  Stetson students, faculty and staff are admitted free with an ID.

Stetson Athletics will be tossing out 100 pairs of Stetson branded socks during the doubleheader, and there will also be a free tailgate between games with free food, drinks, music, and more.  Fans can also get points for checking in on their Hatter Rewards app.

In addition to the live broadcasts, live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed, and the HatCheck text messaging service will provide live updates as well.
