Four members of the Stetson University football team were recognized by the Pioneer Football League (PFL) on Wednesday. Sophomore linebacker
Rich Stanzione and redshirt freshman kicker
Jonny Messina were named to the Academic All-PFL first team, while teammates including senior wide receiver
Jordan Sabo and redshirt freshman offensive lineman
Jacob Sullivan were named to the second team for the 2017 season.

Stanzione, a linebacker majoring in Physics has a 3.79 cumulative grade point average. He was also recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. On the field he had 29 tackles, including a career-high 15 in a game against Dartmouth on Sept. 16.

Messina is a redshirt freshman kicker majoring Integrative Health Sciences. He currently holds a 3.87 cumulative grade point average. On the field he connected on 17 of 18 extra point attempts and he made nine out of 15 field goal attempts with a long of 42 yards. He also filled in on punting duties and held a 42.1 yards per punt average with three landing inside the 20 yard line. He also had three punts longer than 50 yards, including a season-high 66 yards on one.

Sullivan is a redshirt freshman offensive lineman majoring in Biology maintaining a 3.91 grade point average. After beginning the season as a reserve, he earned a spot in the starting lineup and started the final eight games on the offensive line for the Hatters.

Sabo is a senior wide receiver majoring in Molecular Biology with a 3.60 grade point average. On the field he started in one game this season and played in six. He made three catches for 26 yards. Besides his excellence in the classroom, Sabo is very involved in the Stetson community. He is the president of the club baseball team on campus and has played for the team since his freshman year. He is also in the Alpha Epsilon Delta pre health fraternity with plans of attending medical school.

Pioneer Football League athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL squads in 1993 as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-PFL consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and reached their second season both athletically and academically at his current institution. All nominees are nominated and voted on by the institution's Athletics Communications Director at each institution.
