Hatter Guards Making Big Plays

Beach, Chambers, and Wagner combine for 49 points vs. NKU

DeLand, Fla. -- The coaches call it their "small" lineup, but when McKenna Beach, Brittney Chambers, and Sydney Wagner are on the floor at the same time, they have been accomplishing some big things for the Hatters this season.

Beach, Chambers, and Wagner are each 5-foot-6 guards, each can run the point if needed and each can shoot the ball from long range.  When playing together, however, they pose an electric, three-pronged threat that makes it difficult for opponents to defend.

"I like that combination because I think we score the ball better," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "It is very hard for teams to go to a zone when we have all three of them out there because they all can shoot it.  I just like how they play together.  We can run a lot of different things when those three are in."

Wednesday night, the trio combined for 49 of the team's 67 points, with Chambers' 27 leading the way.  Stetson also had 12 fastbreak points in its 11-point win over NKU.

"I like to play fast, so I like that we can play in transition," Beach said. "When we have shooters in the corners, it opens up drives for us, especially for Brittney.  She can get to the basket, and that's what we need."

The Hatters (4-4) will be back on the court at 11 a.m. Friday to host Webber International in the annual Volusia Country Elementary School game.  It will be Stetson's third game in five days with another contest to follow on Sunday at SIUE.

Tickets start at just $7 for general admission and can be purchased online or at the Edmunds Center box office.  Stetson students, faculty and staff are admitted free with an ID.

The game will also air live on ESPN3.  Live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed, and the HatCheck text messaging service will provide live updates as well.

Notes:
  • Stetson ranks eighth in the NCAA in free throw pct. (.800).
  • Brittney Chambers ranks 54th in the NCAA in scoring (19.3).  She has scored 20+ points in four of her last six games.
  • Head Coach Lynn Bria has 181 coaching victories at Stetson, three shy of tying the school record.
