Hatters Shutout Savannah State 8-0

Jessie TenBroeck breaks all-time stolen base record

DeLand, Fla. -- Jessie TenBroeck broke the school stolen base record and Maggie Fritts hit a walk-off home run as Stetson shutout Savannah State 8-0 Sunday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

Tori Perkins threw a three-hit shutout in the circle as the Hatters completed their opening weekend with a 4-1 mark.

"Overall, I was pleased," Stetson heead coach Frank Griffin said.  "I was able to pick up a lot of things that we need to work on.  It was a good opportunity for the coaching staff to do some diagnosing and determining which direction we need to go in practice."

TenBroeck entered the day with 99 career stolen bases, just three shy of Sabrina Isley's school mark of 102.  TenBroeck notched her 100th steal in the bottom of the first inning, then later tied and broke the all-time record with back-to-back swipes of second and third in the bottom of the fourth.

"Jessie is such a threat on the bases," Griffin said. "I knew that (breaking the record) was inevitable, and I know she has plenty more to add on."

Stetson led 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth when Fritts hit a run-rule, walk-off home run to leftcenter field.  It was her second home run in as many games.

Perkins (3-1) pitched all five innings, striking out three and walking none to record her sixth career shutout.

During the Lead-Off Classic, the Hatters produced a total of 36 runs on 31 hits.

"It was a good weekend," Griffin said.  "It's early.  We have some kids who are eager to learn, and I think we are only going to get better."

TenBroeck and Fritts were named to the all-tournament team.

The Hatters will travel to the ESPN Wide World of Sports next weekend to compete at the Orange Blossom Classic.

All-Tournament Team:
Stetson: Jessie TenBroeck, Maggie Fritts
