Make it a Dozen! Hatters Down Upstate for 12th Straight Win

Sarah Sagerer records her eighth double-double

Spartanburg, S.C. -- Sarah Sagerer scored a season-high 20 points and added 10 rebounds as Stetson won its 12th game in a row 77-55 over USC Upstate Monday night at the Hodge Center.

The Hatters (23-5, 12-1 ASUN) shot 56 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Spartans (9-19, 2-11) 38-22.

"I thought defensively we were much better against them this time than we were last time," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I thought we fouled them a little too much, but overall I was pleased with our effort."

ASUN Newcomer of the Week Brittney Chambers scored 17 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers during the second half.  Breana Bey scored 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and Brianti Saunders surpassed the 1900-point mark for her career.

With Saunders and DeAsia Beal each picking up two early fouls, McKenna Beach scored the team's final eight points of the first half to help give Stetson a 36-18 lead at the break.

"I thought McKenna put the team on her back, her and Bey both, and just carried us," Bria said.  "I thought we did a good job of handling their different defenses, too."

With the victory, Stetson remains tied with FGCU atop the ASUN standings with one regular season game remaining.  The Hatters and Eagles will meet in a winner-take-all showdown Saturday evening at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, with the winner earning the ASUN regular season championship and No. 1 seed for the conference tournament.

Tip-off Saturday will be at 7 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN3 and WSBB.

Notes: Brianti Saunders became the first player in Stetson history and seventh player in ASUN history to score 1900 career points … Stetson's 12-game win streak ranks as the second-longest in school history.
