Hatters Close Regular Season on Thursday at FGCU

Stetson men's basketball closes out the regular season when the Hatters visit current Atlantic Sun Conference leader FGCU, 7 p.m., Thursday, in Fort Myers. The game can be seen on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app, and can be heard in Volusia County on WSBB AM 1230 and 1490 or worldwide on myam1230.com.

Thursday's game will have a direct impact on the upcoming ASUN Tournament, which begins play on Monday, Feb. 27. Stetson (11-19 overall, 3-10) can finish seventh with a win but a loss, combined with a win by NJIT over USC Upstate, puts the Hatters eighth and will send them right back to Fort Myers for a quarterfinal matchup with the Eagles.

An FGCU win gives the Eagles (22-7, 11-2) the outright regular-season title, No. 1 seed and home court advantage for the tournament.

A series once dominated by the Eagles has recently turned into one of the ASUN's best matchups, as the last three meetings have been decided by a total of 10 points. FGCU defeated Stetson, 80-78, in last season's ASUN Tournament title game, and edged the Hatters in the teams' first meeting this season by an 89-88 score on Jan. 7 in DeLand.

News & Notes
•Luke Doyle enters the final regular-season game of the year needing two 3-pointers to break his own school record for triples in a season. Doyle set the current mark of 72 last year.
•Looking ahead to the ASUN Tournament, the Hatters will serve as either the seventh or eighth seed. A win against FGCU assures the Hatters of seventh. A loss, combined with an NJIT win over USC Upstate, puts the Hatters at eighth.
•Derick Newton is the first Hatter with back-to-back 500-point seasons since Mark Brisker in 1991 (603) and 1992 (633).
•Divine Myles needs 12 points to reach the 500-point mark. If he does, he and Newton would be the first teammates to do it in the same season since Joel Hancock (554) and Dalton Epting (550) in 1961-62.
